Time Management

Looking back at the last 10 weeks, I feel proud of what I’ve accomplished. Each week I’ve written passionately about relevant issues from my own perspective. I had a few slow weeks. Week 1 as I remember was quite rough and I felt so exhausted coming back to school that I almost dropped right back out, but I’m glad that I stuck with it because I feel stronger than ever now. My week 6 output was another tricky one. I wrote it with great passion, but when I looked at it over the next few days I felt so dissatisfied that I had to take it offline and work on it again from scratch. I got feedback on it and got started again, finishing it after the mid-sem break ended. I would still love to refine that (and many of my other) article(s), but given the constraints of each project I’m pretty proud of them.

When I write I often just go free-style with my thoughts, and I could benefit from more structure, more focus on writing values, the 6 Ws, etc. I also need to incorporate more academic subject matter. I believe this will be a weakness in my final mark if I don’t address them soon. Because of that there is an element of the projects that feels “incomplete”.

It’s also worth noting that while I’ve felt good about my pace, my actual rhythm of outputs is sort of delayed by a week. Because of that I am a little bit worried about the week 12 output, the due date of which will be zooming towards me at full speed at the end of the semester.

Given the rhythm of the semester I feel quite proud of my pace and my outputs. I can’t imagine I would change too much about my time management, although I think planning each output with more structure could have saved me time in the long run. I will definitely be pushing myself to polish off the last 10 weeks of work to make sure they’re all up to my standards.

I don’t know what week 11 or week 12’s outputs are, but I’m confident my current methods will serve me well in completing them in a timely manner. I want my critical portfolio to be something I can be proud of not just for this semester but for the rest of my career in communications. For that reason I’ll continue to work on it and dedicate it to recording my thoughts, interesting or otherwise.

I also planned to make a full Japanese-language mirror website. My Japanese output is not perfect, but it has been improving slowly over the last few months. I want to express to viewers of the website my multilingual ability and showcase my value as someone who thinks and feels in both English and Japanese. However the time that it would take to get that working is a lot more than my current amount of free time. As such it has been on the back-burner. I would like to at least produce that for my HOME and ABOUT pages, as well as some of the simpler posts. Well watch this spot because I plan to make this post the first multi-lingual post!!

Finally, as you can see above I decided to reflect on my progress through a timeline of events. In light blue are currently (as of publishing this) unfinished outputs and when I expect to have them completed. It’s the final push now. Let’s do it!
