Japanese Reading Report: 21 December 2025

とんがり帽子のアトリエ

A very busy week. I had my graduation on Wednesday and was moving around between accomodation after that, so I mostly found time to read off my e-reader.

ファタモルガーナの館

Just played an hour in the middle of the week. Continuing more into the third key bearer's backstory but nothing else yet. It was interesting to see how he witnessed the attack on the brothel and also his motivation for wanting to seize power.

COSMOS

I had two volumes of this in my library and decided to give it a try. The series is about a teenager called Mizumori who has the uncanny ability to sense when people are lying by a foul smell. He ends up learning about a Men In Black-esque organisation that runs various operations to protect, punish, and deal with extraterrestrials who have (unbeknownst to the general population) assumed normal human lives. So far each chapter has been fairly self-contained while also advancing the relationship between Mizumori and his Cosmos senpais. It's pretty good and occasionally hits the emotional beats I like.

ワンピース

Just a bit of One Piece this week. Finished the little arc about the rainbow mist and started towards actually heading to the sky islands. The scale of some of the ocean creatures is really breathtaking. Especially the difference between the strawhat ship and the giant turtle and that and the three sea god creatures was really cool.

とんがり帽子のアトリエ

Another manga I had in my library. This series is always recommended and I don't really know much about it except the cover and the art. It's basically about a girl called Coco (maybe Koko) who wants to learn magic but who was told that you have to be born magic to learn it. Well it turns out that's not true and the system of doing magic is just kept hidden from normies so that wizards can control its use. Koko accidentally casts a petrification spell and gets someone she cares for in a bad situation and now she's learning to become a witch to fix the mess.

機動戦士ガンダム ウェアヴォルフ

Will you believe I had this in my library? To be honest I had completely forgotten how volume 2 resolved so it was a bit of a mess, plus this series just has a very difficult art style to follow. I suppose this volume was revealing the true history of one of the crewmates and complicating things by making it clear that, despite clearly holding animosity towards various crewmates, he's not the "werewolf" (the whole series is sort of a game of whodunit aboard a Gundam-universe spaceship. It's amogus with gunpla)
