Japanese Reading Report: 13 April 2025

A bit of a light week. School is once again eating up all my time.

This week I finished chapter 4, EXIT, and started
chapter 5, FINE.
EXIT sort of went in the way I expected, right until the end
where it went in a direction I did not expect at all. The
whole rest of the book has been a bit of a paradigm shift,
sort of focusing on a story separate to Kabuto's.
FINE is set 10 years after EXIT's ending. Kabuto's son,
Katsumi, is now a father and working man, and so far the
story has involved him slowly learning about Kabuto's old
career and secret life.

Only managed to watch a little bit of this. As suspected,
after introducing the key characters the series has become
quite episodic. Some of the episodes were pretty funny.
One of the enemy robots created illusions and there was a
Mazinger vs Mazinger fight that culminated in the enemy
robot doing the classic 影分身 move around
Mazinger.
Apart from that, there were more developments between
Kouji and Sayaka's relationship, which I've been liking so
far. It's kind of a joke how Sayaka's mech is always a
bullet sponge that goes into battle before Mazinger can
prepare and finish the fight. There was even an episode
where it felt perfect for Sayaka to deal the finishing
blow and instead they turned her attack into a distraction
that let Mazinger slip past an enemy defence. Ah well.
