Reading Report: 28 July 2024
This week I read a few more volumes of 違国日記 and watched some more 3月のライオン. Spoilers for each below. I'm finally also venting about my hellish return home from America. I don't expect anyone to want to read it aha...
違国日記
It doesn't feel like I've read much, but this manga series can be a little bit dense at times and I've been fitting it into every spare bit of time I've had. The more I read the more 槙生's cracked start to show more clearly. The history and struggles of 実里 (朝's deceased mother) have also been pretty illuminating as she's becoming someone who is less one-dimensional than 槙生's perspective (particularly around volume 1 and 2) let on.
There's also been a small side-story/implication that 朝's classmate えみり is romantically interested in 朝. The unrequited love and yearning between characters is very strong.
3月のライオン
Still enjoying this as I expected, though there wasn't really a moment that totally kicked my ass until episode 30 (season 2 episode 8) which suddenly had a pretty big moment. There are parts of the daily struggles that don't really work for me, like 桐山's stepsister's whole deal, or the bullying arc for ひなた, but generally I find the drama that surrounds the Shogi is pretty well done (even stuff that really has nothing to do with Shogi).
Life Stuff (venting!)
I feel like I need to vent about this so here it is. I'm back in Australia from a fairly long, very enjoyable trip to America. My journey home was full of all kinds of strife. First my flight out of Logan Airport (Boston) was delayed because of a huge storm on the east coast. Because of that delay I missed my connection home by about three hours. My flight was rescheduled to the following evening, and I was put up in a hotel for the night. I woke up in the middle of the night with intense leg pain in my right leg, which only let up in intensity for the rest of this ordeal. I boarded my rescheduled flight only to be informed that technical issues were affecting the flight. After about three hours the flight was cancelled and evacuated. The airline was unable to put me in a hotel room because their computer systems were down (I'm sure anyone who knows, knows what was up). Thanks entirely to my boyfriend I was able to get to a hotel and, despite the hotel systems being down and bookings being unavailable, the concierge helped me into a room regardless. That night my other leg experienced intense pain and cramping... I wasn't provided with a replacement flight until several days later and had to pay for the hotel out of pocket.
On Sunday the 21st (so about a week ago, not accounting for timezones) I finally boarded a flight that took me home. I landed in Australia on Wednesday the 23rd, and because ill fortune wasn't done with me just yet... my luggage was lost in the system. Thankfully I was able to have that delivered to my home and it came without too much stress.
So I'm home a week later than I expected to be. I've had to hit the ground running with the school semester beginning the week I arrived. I'm exhausted and haven't had a chance to truly rest from the travel, and I have no choice except to push on.
