Reading Report: 21 April 2024

鋼の錬金術師 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

This week I watched some FMA Brotherhood and Aura Battler Dunbine, plus I read some more 二十四歳職業OL、転生先でキシリアやってます. Mild spoilers for each inside.

聖戦士ダンバイン

I watched a bit more of this than I expected as I was away over the weekend and needed to set up anime on my phone instead of my usual stuff. This week there were a few cool moments. トッド got his ass beat and landed in a forest, ended up being replaced by a bunch of even more ruthless Earthlings, including a ギャル系 who uses さ at the end of half her sentences. ショウ and ガラリア have a big aura fight and end up going back to Earth. ショウ tries to reconnect to his parents but they aren't relieved, they're in complete disbelief that he's really him. Aura Battler weapons are supercharged on Earth, so ガラリア getting all 慌てて and launching missiles causes countless deaths.
ショウ and ガラリア try to get back home but she dies in the process. Later ショウ is able to muster the Aura energy to get back to バイストン・ウェル.
Back there we finally get a successful prison/castle escape for リムル, the princess. She joins the rebel side but so far isn't totally fitting in. Some people distrust her because she is still ドレイク's daughter, and he's their sworn enemy.

鋼の錬金術師 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

Al has a bunch of existential crises after a suit of animated armour like him (６６号) suggests his entire existence may have started from the beginning of his memories, and that the story of his childhood might be fabricated. I like the tension for the character, but as a viewer knowing that to be untrue it felt like a weak thing to get worried over. It was handled well, though, and a later moment gives him more pre-armour memories so hopefully now he's a bit more confident.
A bunch of people I liked died.
Some obvious reveals also happened. Hughes is the best dad.

二十四歳職業OL転生先で、キシリアやってます　下

キシリア continues to try to attempt to get the timeline of events in order. As it turns out the big problem character for this volume is ララァ・スン, シャア's partner in crime in UC canon. She is also trying to expedite シロッコ's appearance for no good reason (especially now, considering the timeline is only a couple of years out from Zeta Gundam...). They do the assault on ジャブロー, and then also a bit of テキサス・コロニー. Now It's all getting towards the fight with ドズル and ビグ・ザム.
