Reading Report: 12 March 2023
This week was fairly quiet all things considered. I basically just managed to hit the goal targets for reading, although I'm slipping back quite far on my manga goals. Life stuff is fairly hectic, but not for interesting reasons.
フィッシュストーリー 93 Pages (total 173)
I finished the second short story of this book, サクリファイス, and started the third story, the titular フィッシュストーリー. サクリファイス was fairly entertaining the whole way through. It had a good mix of humour and mystery, although I was a bit let down by the final reveal of the story.
フィッシュストーリー has been pretty engaging so far. Unlike the previous stories, this one isn't broken up into regular chapters. Instead each "chapter" is fairly long and covers a period of time. The first chapter was "20 years ago" and tells the story of the coincidences that lead up to the MC discovering a woman being assaulted on a quiet, winding, mountain road on his way home from his parents. The second chapter is set 20 years after that event, the MC swaps to another person who is on a plane to a small tropical island for a work conference. One of her fellow passengers mentions that his dad "met his mum by saving her from a terrible situation" which sounds like a connection to the first chapter, but is 20 years enough time to make that timeline work out?
Audio was a bit low, only 250 minutes (recorded). I did listen to quite a lot of audiobook stuff, but I was so distracted most of the time that I didn't feel comfortable adding a lot of that time to the log. I guess you could say like 500 minutes including low concentration stuff...
Life Stuff
Yappari school is exhausting. Even giving as much time as I can to school on days where I don't have to go into campus, I'm finding it fairly difficult to get all of the information into notes for the week. On top of that I feel fairly unprepared for assignments (which are fairly lax and I have plenty of time to address to be fair). Because of that I barely feel like I have time for Japanese, but I've been trying to cram it in where I can.
I've also been asked to do another work project and I accepted it but probably shouldn't have since I feel so swamped. I'll be doing my best and I don't want to sacrifice quality to get it done so it may just mean setting aside a day on the weekends to push that project. In positive news, I splurged on a nice bento box and I would like to start preparing healthier meals to bring in on days that I have classes. Last week I experimented with some salads and fried rice things and managed to make something I was happy with on the second day.
