Reading Report: 04 December 2022

夏へのトンネル、さよなら出口

Another week, another report. This week I finished off my tenth novel/book which was my goal for the year. Anyway details below the thingy:

サマータイムレンダ2026異聞百景: 75 pages Finished this 1 day ahead of schedule (which is actually about 4 days later than I wanted to, aha...). The final story, ナンバーワンのファン was really good. It focuses mostly on ひづる being held captive by a strange girl, 柊木凪, trying to find a way to save her captor. It also ties up the rest of the book neatly with a reveal that very slightly made me enjoy the previous stories in retrospect. I'm sad to say this is my lowest rated book among books I've read but it really wasn't too bad, just a bit underwhelming. Good for a Summertime Rendering fan.. maybe.

Until next year my plan is to do a manga push so I'm working through my first volumes to find some stuff that hits. Starting with: 夏へのトンネル、さよなら出口: 1 Vol A pretty cute setup for a story. A tunnel in the middle of nowhere will grant you any wish if you walk through it... but(!?). The main character is a whatever guy but his most desired "thing" is intriguing and I'm curious how it will resolve. The main female character is more interesting. She doesn't take anyone's shit and she's quick to violence. Volume 1 ends with them forming a partnership to investigate the tunnel together but there are a lot of small mysteries I'm curious about.

鬼獄の夜: 1 Vol This is one that was either recommended by Jake or I just saw him reading it but I thought "why not". Not to typecast myself but I was immediately interested once I started reading. It's a horror about a grotesque 鬼 that patrols an old, abandoned town. Four young people (two men, two women) wind up crashing their car there and are slowly hunted. There are also some smaller 鬼 which seem to be a bit less focused in their intentions. I like the character relationships for the 4 characters, the tension, and the gore.
