I started watching The Big O. I knew going in it would be a "boy feelings" anime. All about rule of cool and big hits. Getter Robo and Mobile Fighter G Gundam stuff. But actually I've come to realise... there are at least two "boy feelings" anime subgenres: feral boys and gentlemen boys.

Feral boys know kung fu. They're the boys who tie the headband tight, and their sheer masculinity creates planet-sized capable of deicide. As I mentioned earlier, this is your Getters and Fighter Gs.

Gentlemen boys are stylish. They wear tailored clothes and comb their hair. Their robots hit hard, but they brush off the dust after it all settles. Giant Robo, though I didn't realise it until today, was my first gentlemen boy robot anime. The Big O is my second. I live for these preppy, spy-fantasy boys piloting mecha that wreck entire city blocks with train-sized fists.
