This year I've had two 180s on my design tastes thanks to retro anime.

I've long been a Salamence hater. I thought its flat red wings were hideous and didn't see the appeal. Then I watched Getter Robo and realised the charm of goofy ass dragons (dinosaurs) flying around and having fun. Now I wish more popular media went hard on goofy kaiju stuff.

My favourite anime of the year so far (maybe all time?) was Gundam Victory, but I always felt like I had to hedge my love with, "the designs aren't that good". Well, I've been watching Dunbine and I think the insectoid designs really sell a feeling, and you know what? I think the ZMT-S12G Shokew (pictured above) is pretty cool, actually.

If only they made Gunpla of Victory not named V2 😭
